Living in a green home

How do you convert an existing home into a green home? Is it expensive? Well the answer is yes, but there are some smart green choices you can make, that will make a difference.

So how can you help in a simpler more realistic way? You can follow your municipalities guidelines for re-cycling, also in certain areas private re-cycling depots will often pick up where the government leaves off. Make sure you get organized before you venture out though.

If you decide to redecorate  your home, you can use paint that has either no, or low, VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds). If you plan on re-sealing sealing wood doors or floors try latex it does not have a pollution factor you need to worry about.

If you are buying new appliances, many appliance manufacturers offer a green choice. Also washing machines and dish washers often have cycles which can operate with less water which helps the environment. There are also some toilets that have these features. The great thing is that all of these options mean cheaper bills to pay for both your hydro and water consumption.

When purchasing kitchen appliances choose a  stove  kitchen appliances with the Energy Star rating.

Then you can extend your green living into buying  environmentally friendly soap powders and cleaning products.
